What does the transition to the cloud mean for licensing?

Transition Cloud – Companies around the world are relying on Microsoft business solutions today and enjoy the benefits of intelligent, networked collaboration, automated processes and comprehensive insight into customer data.

Microsoft is following this path consistently and has combined the previously separately provided solutions Microsoft Dynamics AX and Microsoft Dynamics CRM in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and makes this business platform available in the cloud.

Cloud and mobile solutions will transform business processes and support new working styles. While replacing existing business systems in the past often entailed risks, failures and high costs, the advantages of today’s modern cloud applications clearly outweigh the advantages: more efficiency, more security, and more mobility. Without high initial investments and without large IT resources. This turns technology into a competitive advantage.

But what about the Microsoft Dynamics applications in which people have invested, which have been used in the company for years and with whom they enjoy working? Do they need replacing? No, because Microsoft offers its customers a transition to the new world that takes investment into account and provides access to the significant benefits, especially the cloud.

In general, existing systems can continue to be used, both for applications used online and those installed at the customer’s site (on-premise). Extensions with additional users or functions are still available.

What happens if a new version of the Dynamics application is to be used?

Users of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online retain their subscription and use the corresponding Dynamics 365 components in the cloud after the conversion.

For customers who purchased their Dynamics CRM licenses via Open License, Open Value or Open Value Subscription, licensing is now available via a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP), under an Enterprise Agreement (EA), via Web-Direct or Microsoft Products and Service Agreement (MSOP). The components of Microsoft Dynamics 365 will also be used here after the release upgrade.

What is the transition from Dynamics CRM to Dynamics 365 about?

The Dynamics CRM user who will be replaced by the Dynamics 365 user:

CRM Online Enterprise Dynamics 365 Enterprise Customer Engagement Plan
CRM Online Professional Dynamics 365 Sales or Dynamics 365 Customer Service
CRM Online Basic Dynamics 365 for Team Members for Lead or Case-Management
CRM Online Field Service Add-On Dynamics 365 Field Service
CRM Online Project Service Automation Add-On Dynamics 365 for Project Service Automation

How does the transition from the local installation to the cloud work?

There are basically two options for switching from a local installation to the Microsoft cloud:

  • Hybrid use of the Dynamics application, i.e. working with the local version and additionally with the options of the cloud. For the local version, the software assurance or the enhancement plan will continue to be paid and the cloud components will be made available as a subscription at a discounted price.
  • The direct migration to the Microsoft Cloud, i.e. only the Cloud will be used after the release upgrade. Software assurance and enhancement plans are no longer required. The licenses are provided as part of a subscription at a discounted price.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 helps you to focus on your core competencies and to get rid of the complexity of classic ERP and CRM systems: Manage your company and provide professional support to your customers.

Good reasons to move to the cloud:
