Cycling for children with cancer

The aim of Team Rynkeby is to raise money to fight childhood cancer through national fund-raising campaigns. In 2016, Team Rynkeby managed to raise over € 8.84 million to fight childhood cancer.

To join Team Rynkeby on the 1,200-kilometer trip to Paris, the participants need to prepare themselves for almost a whole year. They are also obliged to do what they can to raise money for children with cancer and their families. The company Rynkeby Foods A/S covers the primary costs of the project. This means that a large amount of the amount that is raised by the participants goes to local childhood cancer associations in either Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Faroe Islands or Iceland.

Childhood cancer

Childhood cancer is a very serious disease. It causes the highest number of illness-related fatalities in children aged 1 to 15. A positive aspect is that scientists have made significant progress in recent years and they are now able to save the lives of 80% of children diagnosed with cancer. Yet, the key challenge regarding childhood cancer is that childhood cancer is different than adult cancer. In fact, scientists don’t really understand why children get cancer.

Therefore, the need for dedicated research into cancer is of high importance. Scientists need to be able to discover the causes of this illness and to develop better and gentler methods of treatment, so that the children not only survive, but are able to live a normal life after treatment.
