“Technology is changing the way everyone does business and AlfaPeople is in the center of this transformation.”
– Peter Chalem

AlfaPeople is thrilled to recognize Peter Chalem as he celebrates his four-year anniversary as VP of Sales and Marketing of AlfaPeople USA. Peter is a dynamic member of AlfaPeople’s continued success, and we are pleased to celebrate his consistent hard work within the company.

AlfaPeople-Career-Peter-ChalemPeter studied computer science and took a liking to coding and developing solutions. Right out of college Peter started a business with a friend, with the goal of developing and designing software specific to companies. In that process, their business was acquired by a company looking to develop their existing software on the latest technology. That company, which had offices in Colombia and Costa Rica, is what eventually became AlfaPeople and is the basis for the AlfaPeople Latin-American presence.

Peter has over 20 years of senior-level managerial experience with expertise in providing hand-on leadership and direction for all aspects of a company’s operations. In addition, Peter has a solid proven track record of building up companies with a solid structure for continued growth.

We took the time to ask Peter some questions about his experience working with AlfaPeople.

What is your position at AlfaPeople and what do you do?

I am the VP of Sales & Marketing for AlfaPeople USA. I am responsible for delivering on the company’s sales and marketing objectives.

What is your typical day like?

I always try to tackle the toughest task at the beginning of the day, then I work on emails. Throughout the day, I have continuous meetings with customers and prospects or internal members of my team.

How does working at AlfaPeople challenge and encourage you to do your best work?

Although AlfaPeople is a multinational company with 500+ employees, it has a culture of measuring employees by the results of what you bring to the company. Not necessarily by the hours you log each day. It is very demanding and we have large goals, but we have the flexibility to do things our own way.

As for challenges, every new lead/prospect brings a new challenge and a new teaching. That makes every day unique and interesting.

What is your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part is and has always been visiting with customers and learning about their business and processes.

When you want to sell an administrative system to a company, you need to understand their requirements. At the same time, you need to be able to work with them and guide them to adapt to the new technologies, ideas and processes in their industry.

Each customer is different, and I’m always learning new and interesting things with each project.

What is the best advice that somebody else has given you?

“Execution trumps knowledge every day of the week”, which basically means it is not enough to know, you also need to do.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

I think it can be best defined by the following quote that I heard from by Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean; “The problem is not the problem; the problem is your attitude about the problem”. To me, this means you can decide how things will affect your life. It makes me more positive and happy as I try to see the good in everything.
