Those of us who have worked with both CRM and AX are happy to hear the news that the best of CRM and AX have been combined in a single product that has been integrated onto a single platform, Dynamics 365.

It is part of the new generation of cloud-based apps, which reduce hardware investment and maintenance costs. It combines the best of CRM online and Dynamics AX with Office 365, forming a complete union on a single platform while also including the management of customer service and marketing, together with the daily operations of business transactions and processes.

It offers different apps for business areas as optional applications to satisfy the specific needs of the business sector. They are available for customers through “AppSource,” the online Microsoft store, and they can easily be used independently. They simplify the day-to-day work of employees who are familiar with the regular use of technology through mobile devices.

The two modalities offered allow both medium-sized and large companies to stay up to date in this new digital area, in which the focus is on facilitating workflow between the different areas of a company and its IT system, and on simplifying the management of data between applications.

According to Microsoft, Dynamics 365 is not meant to replace existing solutions, but rather to complement them by offering something that is easy to implement, to buy, and to scale to the needs of current customers using other solutions such as Office 365.

Dynamics 365 has been available since November 1, along with all of the functionality that is included with this product. There are two versions: 1. Business edition, based on Project Madeira (which itself is based on NAV functions) – only available in the United States and Canada for now; and 2. Enterprise Edition, that has two licensing methods, through a method in which you pay for the use of a specific module, or through a user method, in which users receive the functionality they require, based on their role within the company.

The Business version will also include the Financial, Sales, and Marketing modules, and the Enterprise version will include components of the new version of AX, although that doesn’t mean that it will have 100% of the functionality of ERP.

Advantages:

  • A business can start with what it needs, and gradually grow.
  • Integration between Dynamics 365 and Office 365.
  • Large volumes of data, advanced analysis.
  • A platform of flexible and scalable business applications.

It may sound simple, but Dynamics 365 is bridging the gap that existed between Dynamics CRM and Dynamics AX. Now we don’t need integration between data and processes, but instead have everything on a single platform.

Dynamics 365 is a cloud-based service. It will not be available on-site or on “private clouds”. Microsoft will continue to provide support for its applications such as Dynamics AX, Nav, GP, and CRM, and may offer connectors to link up hybrid on-site/cloud solutions, as well as migration tools to go from being on-site to the cloud.
